Ben Lui, sunrise

‘Ben Lui’ a winter sunrise – the chance of seeing this again is almost impossible, which is what I love about trying to capture what I see.  The time of day and year created the perfect angle for the sun to light the clouds form below, a truly magical effect. Using special paint ground from traditional old style pigments it has realised the image in my head. A large oil painting for a fitting location.

Colin takes the presentation of his work very seriously! The entire picture is created from scratch.
He lovingly prepares each Gesso board to conservation standards, and uses hand-made oil paints using old style pigments from a specialist supplier. He also builds each individual frame specifically to complement the painting, and often finishes the frame with special wax varnish which he mixes himself. Some of the frames will have gold leaf applied to further enhance the effect.
