Barn Owl moonlight – silverpoint
Barn Owl flying at moonlight, in silverpoint. Materials used include pure silver, platinum, 9ct yellow gold and 9ct red gold for the clouds. This was probably the most challenging of the Silverpoints so far — as I chose to paint the Lapis Lazuli ground around the owl, instead of just doing a wash first. Maybe if you think of the ‘ground’ as being a mix of glue and watercolour pigment with a little chalk added, it may help to appreciate the difficulty of getting this to flow where you want it to !! By the time you have lifted the brush off, the glue has set.
