‘Barnacle Geese over Loch Indaal’

An evocative new oil painting, inspired by the big skies, wide sea lochs and fast-moving skeins of geese that can be seen on Islay in winter. Getting the perspective in the skein was important for the success of the picture, I find more and more that I am painting instinctively now – no pencil outline or sketch to follow, just straight onto the oil background.  I managed 4 geese an hour and each have eyes – though I can barely see them the heads are so small!

Oil painting on Gesso board.  This painting is for sale contact us for more details.

Colin takes the presentation of his work very seriously! The entire picture is created from scratch.
He lovingly prepares each Gesso board to conservation standards, and uses hand-made oil paints from a specialist supplier. He also builds each individual frame specifically to complement the painting, and often finishes the frame with special wax varnish which he mixes himself. Some of the frames will have gold leaf applied to further enhance the effect.

Painting size approximately = 380 x 580 mm.
