Handmade Japanese style sketchbook – plain pages
£67.50
Handmade by Colin
This book of plain unlined paper has a cover that has been handmade by Colin using traditional Japanese bookbinding skills. The inside pages have been selected to suit the style of the book and are suitable for sketching and writing with most media.
Specification
- Size: 192 x 292 mm approx. 60 pages (30 leaves)
- Cover: Quarter-bound in Japanese kingfisher silk cloth. Special high quality Japanese Chiyogami blue, gold and red paper
- Endpapers: Frogmore Mill gold and silver fleck recycled paper
- Paper: 150-200 gsm approx. plain soft white cartridge paper. The paper block is sealed in the traditional way by wrapping and sticking down paper over the two spine corners, in this case handmade indigo Lokta paper.
- Finishes: Contrast stitching in vintage Pearsall’s pure red silk. The last page carries an embossed stamp specially made for these books. A materials list is included with each book detailing all the materials used as well as the specification (see samples in gallery images).
Because of the nature of the binding of the spine this book does not open flat – see image in gallery. This book contains paper of a certain type and is fit for that purpose, but the suitability of this paper across all the many different types of media (ink, paint, pastels, crayons etc) cannot be guaranteed. If in doubt test a small area first.
Note: The Frogmore Mill is the world’s oldest mechanised paper mill and is in Hertfordshire, England. Paper has been made here from 1774 and the current machine is over 100 years old. Pearsall’s silk ceased to be produced in 2012, they were established in 1795 and were renowned for their for their range of silk threads and particularly Gossamer silk fly-tying thread.
